Company description
Ammongas A/S is a Danish engineering firm that designs, builds and services high-performance biogas upgrading, gas purification and carbon-capture plants. Established in 2002, the company grew out of Denmark’s world-leading agricultural and renewable-energy scene and now supplies turnkey environmental technology to clients across Northern Europe and North America. From its modern headquarters in Søborg, Denmark, more than 30 specialised employees – process engineers, chemists, project managers and field technicians – deliver solutions that transform raw biogas and industrial waste-gases into valuable biomethane, liquid CO₂ and ammonium sulphate fertiliser while cutting greenhouse-gas emissions.
For over two decades Ammongas has refined a portfolio of modular amine-based and membrane-based upgrading systems capable of raising raw biogas to grid-quality biomethane with methane recoveries above 99 % and total energy consumption among the lowest in the market. The same absorption technology is used to strip ammonia from sludge, digestate or exhaust air, converting it into concentrated fertiliser that replaces fossil-derived nitrogen. A complementary line of CO₂ liquefaction units enables plant owners to monetise food-grade carbon dioxide or store it as part of a carbon-negative strategy.
The company’s end-to-end project model begins with feedstock and gas-composition analysis, proceeds through basic and detailed engineering, fabrication in Denmark, factory acceptance testing and on-site construction, installation and commissioning. Standard modules range from 200 Nm³/h to 5 000 Nm³/h raw-gas capacity; larger flows are accommodated by multi-train configurations. All plants are monitored via Ammongas’ secure SCADA platform, giving operators 24/7 performance data, remote troubleshooting and predictive-maintenance alerts.
Ammongas solutions have been installed at more than 40 sites in Scandinavia, Germany, the Netherlands and the UK, plus six facilities in the United States, including the 2024-commissioned Allen Farms project in New York State that converts agricultural waste into four million m³ of pipeline-spec biomethane each year. Reliability in harsh Nordic climates is achieved through robust materials, double-redundant critical pumps and a self-regenerating solvent loop that minimises consumable demand and OPEX.
Beyond technology, Ammongas provides regulatory and sustainability support. Its specialists help clients calculate life-cycle greenhouse-gas reductions, prepare documentation for ISCC EU and RED II certification and obtain EU Innovation Fund, Danish EUDP or US Inflation Reduction Act incentives. The company also delivers operator training courses, safety workshops and bespoke process-optimisation audits to ensure long-term compliance with national odour, NOx and methane-slip legislation.
Being part of the European Energy group since 2021 gives Ammongas access to strong balance-sheet backing, global procurement channels and project-development expertise in solar, wind and Power-to-X. This synergy allows the company to offer integrated packages that couple biogas upgrading with electrolytic hydrogen, methanation or e-methanol production, positioning clients for the rapidly expanding renewable-gas and sustainable-fuels markets.
Future R&D priorities include solvent-enhancement additives that further cut energy input, compact carbon-capture-from-flue-gas skids for small CHP engines and AI-driven control algorithms that automatically adjust stripping column parameters to feedstock fluctuations. By combining Danish engineering precision with a deep commitment to climate neutrality, Ammongas continues to push the boundaries of what sustainable gas technology can deliver.
