DVGW-Forschungsstelle am Engler-Bunte-Institut des Karlsruher Instituts für Technologie

Company description

It is one of Germany’s leading research hubs in the field of gas technology and energy systems. Operating under the German Technical and Scientific Association for Gas and Water (DVGW), the centre focuses on applied research to advance the safe, efficient, and sustainable use of gaseous energy carriers — including natural gas, hydrogen, and biomethane. This centre conducts cutting-edge investigations on gas quality, grid integration, gas purification, storage technologies, combustion systems, and sector coupling. It has been a central player in Germany’s gas innovation landscape for over 85 years, serving as a scientific bridge between academia, industry, and regulatory bodies.

The DVGW Research Centre conducts testing, and consulting services across a broad spectrum of energy and gas-related topics, including:

– Biogas and biomethane upgrading and grid compatibility

– Hydrogen blending and infrastructure readiness

– Gas analysis, quality assurance, and emission measurement

– Simulation and modeling of gas distribution and combustion

– Safety standards and risk assessment for gas systems

– Pilot-scale experimentation and certification support

As part of KIT, the research centre collaborates internationally with universities, technology developers, utilities, and regulatory authorities. Its findings directly inform DVGW technical standards, which shape gas system safety and reliability across Germany and Europe.
