TERRAVIS GmbH

Company description

TERRAVIS GmbH is a German specialist focused on maximising the performance and profitability of anaerobic-digestion and biomethane plants. Since its 2011 foundation, the company has operated from Münster, Germany, leveraging the agricultural trading strength of the AGRAVIS Raiffeisen group to deliver both high-quality process additives and independent engineering know-how. A compact core team of about 20 employees works with an extended network of laboratory partners and field technicians to support customers across Europe, with a particular emphasis on Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Benelux and the Nordic markets.

For more than a decade, TERRAVIS has earned a reputation as the “hands-on” biogas optimiser. Its mission is simple yet ambitious: turn every tonne of organic feedstock into the highest possible energy and climate value. To achieve this, the company integrates three complementary competencies.

  1. Feedstock & process expertise – In-house agronomists and microbiologists analyse silage quality, trace-element balance and fermentation kinetics. Based on those results, TERRAVIS supplies tailor-made enzyme blends, desulphurisation media, micronutrient cocktails and emergency stabilisers that boost gas yields, extend digester uptime and cut H₂S emissions.

  2. Plant performance consulting – Certified biogas auditors visit sites to benchmark KPIs, evaluate mass and energy balances, and recommend practical upgrades. Whether operators are battling foaming, low methane content or post-EEG repowering decisions, TERRAVIS delivers cost-benefit scenarios grounded in real plant data.

  3. Training & continuous improvement – Recognising that technology alone is not enough, the company runs operator workshops, lab days and study tours where attendees learn best practice in substrate logistics, safety management and nutrient recycling. This knowledge transfer translates directly into lower OPEX, reduced unplanned downtime and longer equipment life.

The firm’s portfolio covers the entire biogas value chain: from crop planning and silage preservation to digester biology, gas upgrading, CHP lubrication and even direct power marketing. A dedicated sustainability team also supports clients with ISCC and RED II biomethane certification, life-cycle GHG calculations and digital mass-balance reporting, ensuring regulatory compliance and market access for renewable gas producers.

Thanks to its close integration with AGRAVIS, TERRAVIS can draw on advanced laboratory facilities, a nationwide logistics network for just-in-time deliveries and strong buying power that keeps consumable costs competitive. At the same time, the company maintains full technological independence, allowing it to recommend only the solutions that deliver the best technical and economic fit for each customer.

The results speak for themselves. Many plants supported by TERRAVIS report methane yield increases of 8–15 %, H₂S reductions of up to 90 % and payback periods for recommended upgrades well under two years. By coupling reliable product supply with on-site expertise, TERRAVIS helps biogas operators weather volatile energy prices, stricter emission standards and the challenges of post-subsidy business models—contributing to Europe’s broader goals of energy security and circular-economy expansion.

Looking ahead, the company is investing in digital monitoring tools and AI-driven process optimisation to provide even faster diagnosis and remote support. It is also actively involved in R&D projects on biofertiliser refinement and carbon-negative processes such as biochar integration. These initiatives ensure TERRAVIS remains at the forefront of the rapidly evolving renewable-gas landscape.
