Probiogas International Training with Plant Visits

ProBiogas International Training is an intensive 5-day professional course designed for engineers, project developers, investors, decision-makers, and technical experts active in the biogas and biomethane industry.

The programme combines theoretical foundations with practical elements to provide participants with a structured understanding of biogas plant design, operation, and optimization.

The course covers key technical and operational aspects of biogas projects and includes:

  • Technical lectures delivered by experienced industry professionals

  • Practical planning and calculation exercises

  • Site visits to operating biogas and biomethane plants in Germany

  • Opportunities for professional exchange with international participants

Organized by the IBBK Biogas Network, the ProBiogas International course has been running for over 20 years and is offered once — or at most twice — per year. The limited number of editions allows for a focused learning environment and direct interaction with lecturers and plant operators.

The programme emphasizes practical application and encourages participants to bring specific project questions for discussion. It is suitable for professionals involved in the development of new projects, the optimization of existing plants, or those seeking to broaden their technical understanding of biogas systems.

The training may be particularly relevant for professionals already working in the biogas and biomethane sector who are addressing specific technical or operational challenges, as well as for consultants and experts from related disciplines who require a clearer understanding of biogas technologies.

This training includes exclusive visits to several biogas plants in Germany – amazing opportunity to see biogas/biomethane technology in action, compare approaches and see different settings of the plants.

Newcomers – gain hands-on insight into the practical aspects of biogas plant operation.

Technology providers – benchmark competitors, explore system performance and network.

Project developers – observe and discuss various plant configurations and technologies to be up-to-date.

Investors – learn to evaluate risk, performance, and return on investment.

Researchers & students – bridge theory with practice by observing biogas in-action.

Policymakers & regulators – see the blanks and opportunities of biogas business to align regulatory conditions with real-world situations.

Consultants – broaden technical knowledge and expand your network.

2017 International IBBK Biogas Course, Stuttgart, Germany

Among the participants were engineers, scientists, postgraduates, project managers, plant constructors and operators. All lectures were held at the SIMT (Institute for Management and Technology) by renowned experts of the field, providing insight into today's operating of biogas productions. The lectures were complemented by extensive study tours to 5 state-of-the-art biogas plants, from biomethane gas station to municipal bio-waste digestion plants. On site digester samples were taken and analysed, and a tour to the laboratories of the University of Hohenheim was given.
